City Level Clean and Just Energy Transition

In May 2022, the Aberdeen Clean and Just Energy Transition project was established in collaboration with the World Energy Council, bp and Aberdeen City Council (ACC).

This partnership was set up with the goal of discovering and building upon previous work relating to clean and just energy transitions, against a backdrop of the Scottish Government’s recognition of the urgency and opportunity to lead a transformative energy transition in support of its plan to build a resilient economy that is clean, just and inclusive.

The overall ambition for the programme is to:

  • Help decarbonise the city and region to deliver on net zero targets
  • Maintain and grow the economic prosperity of Aberdeen communities
  • Build and integrate a community voice and greater trust for community engagement

The programme is structured in three phases. In Phase 1, the World Energy Council, in collaboration with Aberdeen City Council and bp, established baseline assessment of energy transition and community engagement. Outcomes of this phase can be found in this summary report.

In Phase 2, a set of accelerators will be co-created and generated with the consortium to generate community and business case studies for the city which will be implemented in Phase 3.
